MHS classmate Terence Mulligan has co-authored a new railroad dining book, published in August 2019, entitled "Dining a la Pullman, the History of Pullman Dining Service, 1866-1968."  Terence remarked the following about the book:

“Our opus traces how post-Civil War rail travelers ate, first irregularly at primitive dining houses along the line, switching suddenly, when George Pullman came up with the idea, aboard sumptuous Victorian dining cars his company built for many railroads.  Features included beveled French mirrors, mahogany tables, starched linens, silverware, crystal, lush carpets and meals and service inspired by the best at Delmonico's.  After 1900, the opulence calmed down, but food quality and service remained high until tapering off in the 1960s.  The book is heavily illustrated with B&W and color photos, advertisements and 100 years of menus.  This is a popular history book, modeled loosely on the layouts of "American Heritage Magazine" in its hardback glory days, and to my surprise for such a niche market, is already in its third printing.”
