Not only did I graduate from high school with David, but we graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia with Sharon Barnes in 1968 together. He was a truly nice guy. I miss him.
Thank you Susan for finding that obituary about David. We often walked home from Mount Hebron together. I always admired his widowed mother for keeping their lives together. He was a really nice guy and it's wonderful to see that he was a fellow westerner.
David and I were classmates at Mount Hebron growing up, and he lived not far from my house. We used to play together after school at each other's houses occasionally. He was a wonderful friend, thoughtful, caring and fun to be with. He remained so through the years into high school. I am sorry I lost touch with him. He was a very special person. I feel fortunate to have known him for those formative years.
Haven't thought of David in a long time, but he was a good pal, probably to everyone. Just a good guy with no axes to grind toward anyone. I can still feel a tinge of unease in my gut remembering the time his Dad was killed, I think falling from a tree while pruning. Thanks Susan for posting these links about old friends no longer with us except in spirit.
My mother wanted me to learn how to drive a stick shift car after I got my license - but we didn't have one in the family any more. So, every day after school for months, Dave loaned me his car. I drove around town for a couple of hours and then picked him up at whatever sports practice he was doing and he took me home. But I learned . . . several years later, when my date got too drunk to drive, I was able to drive myself home in his car . . . thank you Dave.
Dave and I played "Peter" and "Katrina" in the Mt. Hebron operetta "Rip Van Winkle"...an on-stage romance...not the easiest thing for two ninth graders...but Dave was a good sport about it, and did a great job ! Sorry he's gone.

Dave was as good natured as anyone I ever knew. He always had a nice smile and very friendly. So sorry to hear of our loss
